Cancer Bulbs

The new items I spent most of my time on this year were port-a-cath bulbs I made while contemplating chemo and the strangeness of having a device implanted under my skin to be used to infuse poison into my whole system. Weird.

I'm glad the port is now out of my body, but the port-a-cath imagery isn't quite out of my system. Soon I plan to write a whole post featuring these bulb sinstalled as intended. The Tour should provide me with the opportunity to hang them--once I finish cleaning my studio.

Besides the 30 some bulbs that are out of the kiln, I've got another kiln loaded that won't be ready before the tour.
the kiln load right now, with some cancer and some abstract bulbs

Cancer Sculpture

I did make some sculpture this year, even if it's hard for me to remember when I made what. Incredibly, one of these sculptures was already in a show this year. How did I do so much and so little in one year?

Not all of the sculpture was cancer-themed, but my whole year sure was!

Cancer Mugs

Riffing on the idea of the port-a-cath, but also, apparently, trying to infuse your morrning caffeine with a bit of the nausea that marked my winter months, I also created a limited number of cancer mugs. No pink ribbons here, but there might be a pink heart that is a port-a-cath in disguise. I'm guessing these mugs are an acquired taste--possibly aquired by knowing what the heck a port-a-cath is anyway.

More Pottery

If chemo imagery isn't your flavor, I've also got some new and some old pottery for sale, including plates, bowls and maybe some other mugs.

Abstract Bulbs

At some point, I ran right out of energy to think about port-a-caths and chemo, so I made some abstract bulbs that aren't trying to "be" about anything much. Except for the one that is about lumpectomy. It isn't pictured here, but it might be on display this weekend.

My Incredible Colleagues!

This show isn't just about me. This year we're aiming for a mini-YVC art theme. Chris Otten and Monika Lemmon will both be showing there work at my house and I can guarantee that they've got 100% fewer port-a-caths. Unlike me, they probably thought about something other than breast cancer sometime during the past 10 months.

Dezignosaur

Even my kid thought about something other than cancer this year. The fabulous young team behind my favorite kid-sourced polymer clay jewelry, Alison, Nancy, and Mili will also be showing at my studio again this year. Check them out on Istagram or just check out their work this weekend. I heard a rumor that if they sell enough jewelry to afford a Boba tea, they'll bring me one too (full disclosure: I started this rumor, too).
